Introduction to Mike Mills

Mike Mills is a security consultant, trainer, and contractor with extensive experience in high-risk operational environments. His career began as a young paratrooper, where he served as a non-commissioned officer and earned operational service awards for his active-duty role during the South African/Cuban conflict in Angola. Following his military service, he transitioned into law enforcement, serving with the Hertfordshire Constabulary (UK) before entering the world of international security contracting.

As a Security Trainer and Risk Management Consultant, Mike has trained Angolan security operatives in area protection for the SDM Diamond Mining Consortium and delivered specialized Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) for European Union election observers deployed across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. His Protective Security Detail (PSD) contracts have included high-risk US Department of Defense (DoD) operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he specialized in personnel protection, convoy security, and risk mitigation.

Beyond security training, Mike has held operational security management roles in European Union Election Observation Missions across Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Myanmar. He later transitioned into institutional security, serving as Head of Security for the American International School of Lusaka (AISL, Zambia), where he was responsible for rewriting and implementing the school’s security manual and emergency response protocols. More recently, he worked as Security Manager for Providence Medical Group (USA), overseeing the safety and security of 108 medical facilities and clinics.

In addition to his security and risk management expertise, Mike holds a Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Diploma in Special Security Management and is certified under the US Diplomatic Security Service - Federal Active Shooter Response Program. Earlier in his career, he also held a South African commercial pilot license and conducted helicopter charter flights between security contracts.

With decades of experience in protecting organizations in hostile environments, Mike brings a real-world, solutions-driven approach to security consulting. He is also personally invested in school security and student safety.
